French in the "Amazigh literary space"
Le français de “l’espace littéraire amazigh"
Résumé
This article focuses on the presence of French writings in the Amazigh multilingual
and multimedia literary continuum (the ‘Amazigh literary space’). The article begins
with a theoretical discussion of the relationships between ‘literature’, ‘literary field’
and ‘literary space’. The article then considers the specific role of French in the
Amazigh literary space starting with very first example of contemporary Amazigh
writing, the emblematic case of Belaïd Aït Ali. By using the concept of the ‘Amazigh
literary space’, we can examine the various linguistic and literary interactions and
overcome the divisions that have historically separated literary works into different
disciplinary horizons, such as Berber studies and ‘Francophone’ studies.
